Rivington Barn wedding photography - Katie & Kieran

Yep, that’s not me temporarily losing my mind and typing my own name. Kieran (groom) and I share the same forename. That didn’t get confusing on the day. At all. Honest.

I joined Katie and Kieran at their Rivington Barn wedding. I was there as second shooter for the fab Nik Bryant. I’m a huge fan of second shooting, that’s basically where the couple have booked a photographer for their day and have requested another professional photographer to come along too to capture groom prep and a different angle of the day.

When I was starting out as a wedding photographer second shooting helped me so much, I learnt loads from all the fantastic photographers I worked alongside and I got to know how a wedding day actually works! I still love doing it now as it gives me chance to see how some of the best photographers in the business work and I also get a bit more creative freedom too.

Wedding receptions at Rivington Barn

So, now you guys all know what I was up to on the day (not just hanging out with a buddy!) let’s chat some more about the real focus here, Katie and Kieran’s wedding day. This was my first time shooting a wedding at Rivington Barn, what a place!

Set within acres of fields, hills and woodland the Barn is a fantastic wedding venue that dates all the way back to the Saxon era. Apparently the oak beams are original - how impressive is that?! Katie and Kieran went all out in styling the barn. They booked Scene My Event to dress the room and it blew everyone away when we arrived after their church ceremony.

After the hilarious speeches I headed out to shoot some portraits alongside Nik. We didn’t have to go far before we were surrounded by lush greenery which made a perfect backdrop for some relaxed photos of Katie and Kieran.

Once we’d got everything we needed (and Katie and Kieran had had a lovely breather and time to chat to each other!) we were all desparate to get back to the party and find out what Scene My Event had in store for the evening entertainment. We weren’t disappointed, as soon as the cake had been cut the dancefloor went OFF! Sax and bongo players took to the stage and kept the crowd entertained and dancing all night. What a party!

Just before we headed off for the night, Katie and Kieran were looking for a quick break from the dancing and asked for some creatively lit portraits. Nik and I were more than happy to oblige of course and it rounded off an absolutely epic day nicely!
